People love to ask me where I got the idea for “P4 Sales Consultants” as a company name. I thought it would be fun to share that here.
In early 2014, as I was preparing to finalize everything and officially “open my doors”, I had to settle a very important issue…What would I call myself? I had decided on the “Sales Consultants” part early on in the process but had really struggled with the what came first. Sure, I could have gone with Parker Sales Consultants, but where’s the fun in that?
The one thing I knew, was that I wanted to come up with something that would include my wife and two children in this new adventure. After all, the three of them would play two very important roles, that were just as important to my success as anything I would be contributing:
- They were my “Why” in the first place. The very reason I was reaching for bigger and better things. It’s my responsibility to provide for my family, and I couldn’t ask for a better motivation.
- I need their support! They would be sacrificing a lot, especially at the beginning, as time (or the lack of it) is the #1 thing you have to put into starting a new company. Not to mention the stress… For my wife – How will this thing work? What problems will come up? Will he even be working or just watching TV all day? For my young children – Where’s daddy?, Why is daddy always working?
The process started with me trying to “think outside the box” and come up with some random creative combination of our names, initials, first 2 letters of each, etc. I just had a hard time convincing myself that I could be taken seriously as “Cahajaca Sales Consultants” or “Mama Sales Consultants”. It’s okay…be honest…Would you take either of those seriously?!?
So I moved on from that idea and just kept thinking. Eventually, it hit me…There’s four of us!! … Four Parkers!! Since The Four P’s sounded too much like a Barbershop Quartet, I quickly moved to “P to the 4th”! Once I said “P4 Sales Consultants” out loud for the first time, I fell in love with it immediately. It fit perfectly with everything I was trying to accomplish in a name.
Now, over two years later, I have a confession to make. Any time I answer the phone, see my email signature, share my website, look at my logo, or anything…I smile! Not because of any ego of a good idea, but because I get to remember my “why” almost every time I look up. There is not a better feeling in the world!
So, I’ll conclude with this: From one P to three others…Thank You!
